African Safari Journal & Field Guide

A wildlife safari to Africa is a transformational experience, too precious to leave to chance. The African Safari Journal & Field Guide is an extraordinarily valuable, compact resource that’s a must-have on safari. It will help ensure you record your richest experiences on safari so you never forget the trip of a lifetime.

African Safari Journal & Field Guide

With expanded and updated color illustrations on everything from trees and fish to eagles and rhinos, there is no single publication available that compiles all of the truly important information one needs to prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Africa like the African Safari Journal & Field Guide. As someone who has been privileged to travel to that magnificent continent over 40 times, I can say without hesitation that this book is an invaluable guide to anyone planning to experience the infinite beauty and wonder of this incredible destination. Its easy-to-read style and wide variety of information make it a “must have” for anyone on safari.

I’ve commented on Mark’s book, the African Safari Journal & Field Guide, a few years in a row now but each time the information gets better and even more invaluable, both to the first time safari goer and the expert. I recently referred to it for an expedition I was planning for National Geographic, and could not have been more satisfied! Mark possesses an innate understanding of people and what they most want to know prior to embarking on safari. His books facilitate the best possible experience, preparing you to manage your expectations and opening you to the magic that is Africa.

African Safari Journal & Field Guide

Journeying to Africa and experiencing the wonders of a safari was, for me, a lifelong dream made possible through the Africa Adventure Company. Having Mark Nolting’s African Safari Journal & Field Guide with me the whole time was like bringing Mr. Nolting’s decades of experience and almost impossibly extensive knowledge of the continent with me on my trip. As a resource, an in-the-field guide, and a travel journal, it was a constant companion on my solo journey through Southern Africa. It’s probably the most thorough source of information out there, and an invaluable safari tool, which I turned to regularly while there, and still do, when I want to remember the details of my African adventure.

Clearing out the clutter from the safari experience, making sense of what is good and what is bad, getting prepared once you have decided are all often overlooked and sometimes overwhelming aspects of the safari. Thanks to African Safari Journal it's all done for you, and all that is left is to engulf yourself in our continent's pleasures.

I refer to the African Safari Journal while I'm on my journey on a daily basis. I use it for reference as well as to keep track of all I've seen, felt, photographed...all my thoughts and activities in one place. I find it to be a handy reference when I return home and arrange my photos and share my experiences with family and friends. I've even referred friends to Mark to travel to particular places after reviewing my African Safari Journals...I keep a new one for each trip...along with my photo albums. The journal is just one of the many advantages of traveling with the very client-oriented Africa Adventure Company!!

Africa's Top Wildlife Countries was my key reference book ten years ago when I first started traveling in Africa. It was a first rate, no nonsense resource then and it just keeps getting better with each edition. The book contains detailed information about each country and what it offers; it is content rich and very well organized, making it very easy to use a planning guide. Nolting's book covers all the things that matter most when traveling to Africa; where to go, when are the best times, what will you see, what activities are available in each country. Everything you need to know to plan your African Safari is covered in this fantastic book!

"We’ve reached a time when safaris need to be equal parts discovery and enjoyment, wonder and excitement but also responsible and contributing to conservation, communities and making the planet better, or we will lose the very resource tourism depends on. Choosing just the right blend is difficult. Thankfully you have a great guide in the form of Mark’s book. He understands quality and the excitement of Africa visited for the first time or once again. It is after all the place that philosophers and poets have gone to find inspiration."

We found the African Safari Journal to be an invaluable tool. When we left home, we had no appreciation for how many animals, or how many different kinds of animals we would see. Each night we would record our adventure and learn more about what we had seen. When we got home, it was a great tool to recreate our journey and make a scrapbook to share with our friends.

Initially I intended to use the African Safari Journal as something to simply wrap up as a Christmas present for my children prior to our trip in July. As it turned out, I probably enjoyed the book even more than the kids and refer to it frequently at our travel agency. It was a wealth of information prior to our departure and during our trip. I loved having the maps and a place to take notes. The animal illustrations with descriptions and check-list in the back are terrific.

We observed a family using the African Safari Journal at an airport. We asked to see it and were impressed at the amount of useful information your company provided in the Journal. We followed up and began planning our next trip with The Africa Adventure Company. Your company provided us with such a unique trip, tailored specifically to our interests.
